ES Setif opened their campaign in Group B of the Orange CAF Confederation Cup with a home fixture, but they were held to a 1-1 draw by four times African Champion TP Mazembe.
Both teams played an open game. They both had their share of chances in the first half, but it was late in the game when the attackers found the goal. Tanzanian striker Mbwana Samatta scored first for the visitors when who took advantage of goalkeeper Sofiane Khedairia blunder (81 ') before Mourad Delhoum equalized a minute later from a corner.
The Congolese could have taken the lead but Ghanaian Gladson Awako's shot hit the goalkeeper on a one on one occasion (50) and Samatta missed two consecutive shots (76).
At the end Entente Setif lost two points at home and Mazembe won one.
